This revision of the Constitution and Bylaws was undertaken by a Special Committee created at the request of the Church in April 2004.
Committee Members: Garry Smith, Randy Even, Mike Butler, Janet Mallow, John Onorato
Ex Officio: Terry Langenberg, Phil Sallee
The original task was to "amend, revise, or rewrite the Church Bylaws in compliance with the current Church Constitution". In April of 2004 a request was approved to begin work on the Church Bylaws update. The goals of the committee were to update the Constitution and Bylaws to align better with the direction of the Church and to better protect the Church from exposure to litigation. Specific actions taken toward these goald were as follows:
Constitution: Minor wording changes were made to clarify as to who we are and the purposes of the Church.
We refer to the 2000 revision of The Baptist Faith and Message as the guiding document supporting our Articles of Faith rather than to the 1963 revision. We did this as the 2000 revision spoke clearly on many currently relevant social issues of which the 1963 revision was silent.
Bylaws: Organizationally we moved from a committee based Church to a Ministry Leadership Team (MLT). The process for searching for a new Senior Pastor was changed to help clarify. The way the Church conducts business through monthly business meeting process was changed. Required business meetings were reduced fom monthly meetings to one annual meeting. Other business meetings are called for specific purposes, which are listed in the updated by-laws, with adequate notice to allow all resident members to be present.
